Robert MCREYNOLDS⁽¹⁴⁾ was born in 1737 in Westbound, Atlantic Ocean. He died in 1814 in Reeds Valley, Russell, Va. Robert McReynolds was born in 1737 in Westbound, Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean. He died in 1814 in Reeds Valley, Russell, Virginia. He was christened. He was buried. He has reference number 123. Robert was born on the Atlantic Ocean enroute to America from Northern Ireland. He was married at West Nottingham Monthly Meeting, Chester County, Pennsylvania. His wife was dis-joined from the Quakers in 1760 for having affiliated with the Prebysterians. Upon arrival in America the McReynolds family supposedly settled in the Cecil County, Maryland-Lancaster county, Pensylvania area but are shown later in Chester County Pennsylvania records. Whether this was a change of residence or a boundary change is not known. Soon after their marriage Robert moved his family to Orange ( now Caswell) County, North Carolina. From that County he served as Ensign and
Recruiting Officer, 110th Regiment, under the command of Abraham Shepherd, during the Revolutionary War. After the war Robert moved his family to Rich Valley, Washington County, Virginia. This is near Abington, Virginia. He is recorded in a land survey there for the year 1786. About ten years later he established residence in Reeds Valley, Russell County, Virginia . There seems to be no record of the time of Martha's death, but on May 3, 18 13 Robert sold his carpenter tools, livestock, and household goods to his son Joseph (Russell Co. DB 3-59). Robert died at the home of his son Joseph. The Inventory and Appraisel of the estate is dated April 14, 1814.

Roland MCREYNOLDS was born in 1739 in Cecil Co. MD or Lancaster Co. PA.. He died in 1769 in Reeds Valley, Russell, Va. Roland, the eldest of the family was our ancestor. He married Agnes Rich and settled in Caswell Co. North Carolina. He was a Fuller by trade and also owned and operated a small country store. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. I only know the names of four of
their children. They are Joseph, Leonard, Samuel, and John.

Roland McReynolds (1739-1796) was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Sarah Dixon McReynolds. We know little about the early life of Roland McReynolds except that his parents resided in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; Cecil County, Maryland; and in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Thus far we have found no record of Roland's marriage but the general opinion is that he was married in the year 1761 in Chester County, Pennsylvania to Agnes Ann Rich, the daughter of Joseph Jr. and Sarah Coulson Rich.
We have no record as to what year Roland staked his claim in what is now Caswell County, North Carolina but the Military Records state that his oldest son Joseph was born 1762 in Caswell County, North Carolina. Roland McReynolds is listed on the 1777 Caswell County Tax List and also on the 1786 State Census for that area. On Sept. 2, 1786 Roland McReynolds entered 140 acres of land situated on the middle fork of the Holson River, Washington County, Virginia. He acquired many more acres by original entry and by purchase at later dates.
Besides being a farmer Roland was also a Fuller by trade. In his writings Benjamin McReynolds speaks of having owned a Country Store but a thorough search of the Washington County, Virginia Court records fails to lend proof of this statement. Benjamin McReynolds states in his writings that Roland's death was caused by becoming intoxicated and losing his way when homeward bound one night and was found the next day frozen to death.
The Inventory and Appraisel of the Roland McReynolds Estate was March 25, 1796 as recorded in the Washington County, Virginia Court records. Roland McReynolds was supposedly an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. We have no record as to when his wife Agnes died but the estate settlement was started in the year 1801 which leads me to believe that her death occured in that time period. Although no grave markers have been found it is the general belief that Roland and Agnes McReynolds are buried in the Royal Oak Cemetery near the farm where they lived. From available records these are the children of Roland and Agnes McReynolds and their approxiamate birth dates:

Know ye that we for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted paid into our Treasury by Roland McReynolds have gifven and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Roland McReynolds a Tract of Land containing Three Hundred acres lying and being in our County of Caswell. On both sides of North Hico Creek beginning at a Black Gum corner of James Curreys and North with said Curreys line thirty chains crossing Hico to a White Oak on said line then West fifty chains to a Post Oak then South thirty chains to a White Oak on a consentable line between said McReynolds and Robert Atkinsons thence South fifty four degrees East seventy chains crossing the Creek with said line to a Hickory then East nine and a half chains to a Pine then North forty one chains to a White Oak on Curreys line then West sixteen chains to the first Station as by the Plat hereunto annexed doth appear together with all woods, waters, mines, minerals, heredit aments and appertunances to the said Land belonging or appertaining to hold to the said Roland McReynolds his heirs and assigns forever yeilding and paying to us such sums of Money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct provided always that the said Roland McReynolds shall cause this Grant to be registered in the Registers Office of our said County of Caswell within twelve months from the sale thereof; Otherwiase the same shall be void and of none effect.
