bulletRebecca WANZER was born on 4 Aug 1801 in Allegheny Co. NY. She died in 1877 in Leon, Butler Co, Kansas. Today, Wabash County, Illinois is bounded on the north by Lawrence & Richland counties; on the east and south by the Wabash River; and on the west by Edwards county with the Bonpas Creek flowing between. In 1818, Palmyra, located on the Wabash River just north of the mouth of Crawfish Creek approximately 4 miles north of Mt. Carmel, was the county seat of Edwards County. At that time, Edwards County was bordered on the east by Indiana, south to where the Bonpas Creek entered the Wabash River; then west to present day Mt. Vernon, IL, and then north to Canada. The county encompassed half of Illinois and much of present day upper peninsula Michigan and Wisconsin. There was a flood of migration into and through this area and to many it served as a Gateway to the West.
Wabash Co. Illinois- About one hundred sixty years ago the first settlers came to this area, a few as early as 1814. Then in 1816 a little colony came from New York State by flatboat down the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers and up the Wabash by keel boat, to old Palmyra,
dispersing soon afterwards to Lancaster and Friendsville. These were the ancestors
of the Higgins, Smith, Moss, Brines, Harrison, Utter and Couch families.

Rebecca is probably the daughter of Ephriam and Lydia Wanzer. Ephriam must of died before the 1840 census.I believe they had a son Ephriam also and he is the one in the 1850 census
