The church records in Emmaus, Pa. state: "A daughter, Catherine, was bom to Mennonites, Johannes and Elizabeth Siegfried of OLEY on Nov.14, 1719".This is the earliest evidence that locates JOHANNES SIEGFRIED ( or Hans Sigfridt ) in America. His country of origin, his date of arrival in America, his wife Elizabeth's maiden name and where and when they were married are all unknown. . Sometime after 1719 Johannes and his family moved north over the Oley Hills to an area the Indians called " MACHKSET-HAN- NE " (Bear's Path Stream ). The Penns "purchased " this land from the Indians in 1732 and in the same year, Johannes Siegfried purchased 294 acres ofland from Casper Wister, a Land Speculator and brass button manufacturerin Philadelphia. Johannes added to his land in MAXATAWNY until he had in excess of 6W acres.
Johannes Siegfried died in December of 1747 and his will was probated in Philadelphia in January 1748 t . He died leaving his wife, Elizabeth, and eight (8) children:Catherine (1719), Joseph (1721), Johannes 11 (1723), Margaretha ( ? ),Mary Elizabeth (1726), Magdalena (1727), Susanna (? ), Anna ( ? ). His land was divided equally between his sons, Joseph and Johannes(John).
