Maria ANGUISH was born on 18 Sep 1872 in Arapahoe, Nebraska. Kate and the
children had ended up in Evansville, Indiana, where she was granted a divorce
from Uncle Fred in 1905 when the youngest daughter was 7 years old. Kate was
allowed to keep their son, William Henry, who was 14, but the court ruled that
the 4 daughters must go to foster homes because Kate was not financially able
to support all the children. Elsie and
Ethel went to farm homes that were close enough that they were able to see each
other once in a while, but they lost track of their younger sisters, Theodore
and Marie. By the year of 1906, Kate had married John C. Bowker, who was a Steward
on a ship between San Francisco, Calif. and the Orient. Kate was running a rooming
house there in San Francisco at the time of the great earthquake. They left as
soon as possible after that and went to Seattle, Wash., and Kate never set foot
in California again. John then was a Steward on a ship between Seattle and Alaska
and Kate ran a rooming house. When Kate learned her daughter Elsie was having
marriage troubles she sent for them to come live with her in Seattle. Soon after
Elsie came to Seattle she met (Herbert G. Porter), a ship steward friend of her
step-father who was on the same line to Alaska. They were married there in Seattle
on 3-22-1913. This marriage was blessed with 3 children, one son, Richard Donald,
and 2 daughters,
Alice Muriel (Mrs.George Donald) and Pauline Marir (Mrs.Norman L.Jones). Parents:
Edward ANGUISH and Mary Georgia
FITZGERALD.
